There was a time when furniture makers worked with and around sculptors. The Stack Side Table, one of Thomas Pheasant’s most published forms, suggests that modern furniture makers often are sculptors. For 25 years, public interest in the Stack Table has been tempered only by the cost. With a standard size and finish, Baker can make use of simple tools and established processes. The resulting rods are very much the same, still hand assembled, one table at a time. Now, more of us can appreciate everything from the clear glass top to play of light and shadow to the fiddle string texture of the rods. The difference between versatility and luxury is only a matter of time. This is a dynamic alternative to a cocktail table. While scaled as a Drink Table, it was always meant to be bunched. It also works as a pedestal, and some owners display an important collection over several sequential Stack Tables.
